Page 1 of 3 You want her to say “yes” as you get down on one knee and propose to
her. But creating a memorable and special proposal can give some men
rashes or heart palpitations.
But what about taking your loved one to a great location to push that proposal over-the-top? Can you imagine telling your grandkids how you surprised their grandma with a diamond ring on top of the Grand Canyon or on a gondola ride in Las Vegas?
“The proposal, more than anything else in your courtship, is the thing that gets told over and over again,” says Erica Hoke, owner of a new marriage proposal planning business called You Rock Marriage Proposals in Sarasota, Fla.
She’s helped men plan some extraordinary intimate settings and destination proposals to pop the question to their future brides.
“Every proposal is so personalized. Just remember that you want to keep communicating with her throughout the event because she won’t know what’s going on right away.”
She recommends avoiding these no-no’s -- rushing the proposal, proposing during a dinner, putting the ring in any type of food or in the bottom of a champagne glass, and proposing in the car, taxi or any type of transportation. She has exceptions to that last rule. A hot air balloon ride over California wine country or even a ski lift ride soaring up the mountain could both be great places to ask her to be your bride. Here are some top picks of romantic places in the United States for an unforgettable marriage proposal:
1. Disney World or Disneyland – Ride quietly on one of the boat rides such as “It’s a Small World” or at the top of “Splash Mountain.” How about making her your princess for life in front of the famous white castle?
2. Empire State Building, New York City – Talk about being on top of the clouds. You are 102 stories high at the observation deck. If she’s a fan of “Sleepless in Seattle,” she’ll definitely say yes. Bellagio Fountains Las Vegas, Nevada
3. A cozy Vermont lodge – What could be more romantic then sitting in front of a roaring fire sipping hot chocolate? If winter isn’t to your liking, then pick a gorgeous fall day with colors all around. Take a walk to a quiet, peaceful spot.
4. Napa Valley, California – Beauty is all around with break-taking landscapes, quaint bed and breakfasts or rustic wineries. Hot-air balloon rides can be extraordinarily gorgeous at sunrise or sunset.
5. Bellagio Fountains – Even if you haven’t visited Las Vegas before, you’ve probably seen these spectacular fountains in movies such as Ocean’s Eleven. Just the sheer power and grace of the water could win her over.
