Buddy, your day is going to be tough enough, and the LAST thing you need to worry about is giving a long speech. So keep this in mind:
THANK EVERYTHING THAT MOVES - that's pretty much it. Thank everyone for joining you and your Bride on such a joyous occasion...especially those who traveled such a great distance. Thank your parents for being great. Thank her parents for being great. Thank those close friends and relatives who went above and beyond to throw a party or decorate or whatever. Thank the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Thank your Best Man. Then, after thanking those people you forgot to thank because you're so unnerved at just getting married, thank your Bride. The whole room is listening, so make this one count. It should come from the heart. And, it should melt hers.
SOME TOASTS FROM THE PAST: Still having trouble getting started? Ask the older guys what they've said at weddings.Go online and do some research. Or grab a book on the subject and pick and choose from your favorites.
We've taken the liberty of providing a Toast or two from Best Men and Grooms, all of which got some major thumbs up from everyone involved.
GROOM'S TOAST - SampleSince my ring is shinier than any man's in the room, I must be the Groom. And much like an Academy Award winner, I have so many people to thank; I don't know where to begin. So thank you, Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs. Smith for such a beautiful wedding. I'm so lucky in that you've been like second parents to me, without ever trying to ground me.
Thanks to all of you here, especially those who traveled from so far away to be with us. Thanks to those who gave their time and homes for the showers and teas and receptions. They were all beautiful, and I hope that at the parties the groomsmen attended, the breakage was kept to a minimum. Speaking of which, thanks to all my groomsmen for staying by me, and out of jail this weekend.
And a special thanks to my Best Man and Best Friend. You know a best friend is someone who knows the worst about you...and still refuses to believe it. And nobody knows more and believes less than this beautiful guy. To all the bridesmaids, my appreciation for you is second only to your affection for my Bride.
Oh yes...(turning to her)...the Bride. I almost forgot. You know, I'm a man of few words (turning to guests) ...And isn't that what every woman wants? OK, seriously, I have a lifetime to express my love for you, so for now, I'll simply say this. Someone told me that the key to a successful marriage is to keep falling in love, over and over...but always with the same person. So here is to my beautiful bride...and to a lifetime of falling.
