If it’s simply too much of a challenge to write your own vows, fret not. There are alternatives. Here are some profound suggestions from Justice Black:

1.  “Our Wedding Day” by Frank Holcomb.  It is a piece that is not too long, not too short, and conveys just the right amount of sentiment – and for the purposes of use for wedding vows, written in the first person.

2. G. Callaway, wrote a poem called “Autumn Dreams”

3. For the classic poetry route, e e cummings’ “i carry your heart with me I carry it in” or “Friendship” by Henry David Thoreau.

4. A poem or a piece of literature used as a vow can play off of a wedding theme or give a nod to a couple’s ethnicity, such as (ancient Greek poet) Theocritus’ “Wedding Song: Lullabye For Sleepy Lovers,” which, when spoken in the first person is a lyrical and timeless tribute to love’s ideal and will knock a bride’s socks off.
