Top 10 Digital Cameras to Take on Your Honeymoon PDF Print E-mail
Written by Lee Nelson

camera_girlDon’t miss out on capturing the best parts of your honeymoon – get your mind out of the gutter. Wherever you are escaping to with your new bride, you’re going to want to take some great photos with a compact new digital camera.

Steve Koenig, senior manager in the market research department at Consumer Electronic Association, said grooms have lots of choices now in digital cameras that don’t have to blow their budgets. And some of the accessories for cameras can make your shots even more priceless – especially if they are underwater.

“When I went on my honeymoon five years ago to Grand Cayman, my wife and I scuba dived. I wish we would have had an underwater camera case,” he said.

The market now has waterproof cases available for many camera models. For instance, Canon offers an underwater, customized case for every digital camera it sells. The price varies from $100 to $250.

“If you are planning a honeymoon on the beach, it is a wise investment. The wind blows, and sand gets into the moving parts. It doesn’t matter if you are snow skiing, hiking or snorkeling, these cases will extend the life of the camera, and you don’t have to worry about it,” Koenig said.

Before getting to the top 10 list, think about what you will be using the camera for and what features you think you might like to try out. Do you want a zoom lens that can magnify the face of someone a football field away? Would you like to take landscape photos while lying on the beach? Don’t get roped into buying something too complicated or too expensive for what you need.

Point and shoot cameras – the ones you don’t have to mess with except turning them on – have come a long ways when it comes to sharp pictures. They call it resolution and megapixels. Most cameras have at least 5 megapixels while some jump to 7 or more – which is far beyond high definition, Koenig said.

For zoom action, a good ratio is 3x. That is sufficient for 99 percent of all photos. In today’s market though, even the least expensive cameras have at least 5 or 6X zoom capacities.

Also remember that digital cameras can also have WiFi as part of its appeal. That means you can connect it to your laptop without any cords, free up your memory card and possibly print them right off your computer whenever you want. It also works on your cellular network similar to a camera phone.
